Luxembourg City, Luxembourg Photo by Cedric Letsch on Unsplash If you have ancestors who resided in Luxembourg there are a number of resources, including digital information on FamilySearch and Matricula as examples. Another source that has been useful for me is Luxracines.lu. Let’s look. According to their website: “The association luxracines (Genealogy and Local History in Luxembourg) a.s.b.l. has as its object
Membership is fairly reasonable, and I have been a member for a number of years. One of the reasons that I find this group so helpful is that they sell Family Books for Luxembourg. Many of them can be purchased as downloads. You may choose to print the book or just search in the digital copy once you’ve downloaded your purchase. They currently have fifty-eight family books but continue to have more. In addition to these books, there are family genealogies, emigration information and more. As a member you also will have access to "GeneaLux.Net" which gives you access to genealogies, marriages in Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany which have been transcribed. If you are lucky enough to be in Luxembourg when they are having some of their training and seminars, you are able to attend those as a member. Just like your local genealogical societies, this society provides interesting resources that are not readily available on the “big” database sites. With a focus on their country or region, they are in a unique position to understand what is available for the family researcher. If you are researching Luxembourg ancestors, I hope this gives you another resource to explore. If you don’t have Luxembourg ancestors, think about your country or region, and see if you can find something similar. Happy researching!
