Photo by Glenn Carstens-Peters on Unsplash I know what you’re thinking Cyndi's List has been around a long time and we all have used and appreciated it. I think it is a good idea to revisit this site because you can always find something new. Let’s look. For those who are not familiar with Cyndi’s List, this is a great site created by Cyndi Ingle It is basically a list and links for genealogy and history sites categorized by topic and/or place. It has been around since March 1996 and continues to grow to meet the ever-expanding online genealogy resources.
As I was thinking about what topic to discuss today, I decided to pop out to the site to see what was new. After all these years, I discovered that she has a section called “explore new links” which is exactly that. By date, you can view the latest links that have been published on Cyndi’s List. At some point, it appears that you will be able to sign up to be on a mailing list to receive information from Cyndi regarding changes and updates to the site. If you would rather use the search option to find your topic or place, that is in the upper right of the page. Be sure to look for results that are specific to Cyndi’s List as I noticed that the top portion of the pages provides other links. As family historians we sometimes spend time in the large database sites, but it is good to look at places like Cyndi’s List which has a plethora of links from genealogical societies, state newspapers and topics related to our ancestors such taxes or events in the community. And what site wouldn’t be complete without shopping! There are links to various sites for genealogy related purchases. It is easy to get into the same old routine when we are doing our research. Step outside your typical databases and find some new sites. Enjoy!
