Photo by Lerone Pieters on Unsplash Fulton Center I’m always interested in finding genealogy related sites. I’ve recently discovered Fulton History which has an indexed search option. It is an older site, using that technology, but if you have ancestors in the New York area, some of these older newspapers may just be the ticket for you. Let’s look. This site has many newspapers from the United States and Canada. (Most related to New York.) You can search in a variety of ways, but I would recommend trying a few different ways to search for a particular subject. For example, I wanted to see what newspapers were available for Grey County, Ontario, Canada. When I searched for “Grey County Ontario Newspapers”, I had zero results. I tweaked this to read “Grey County Ontario” and had results for newspapers in that county. Here’s an example of one of the articles. As you can see it is a pdf file of the newspaper image.
To access this site and search yourself, you can go here: index (fultonhistory.com). If you would like to see what newspapers are available to search on this site, choose this My Old Photos (fultonhistory.com). I noticed that accessing the newspaper list requires an account but there are other treasures including many postcards and photos. I will note that the photos are slow to load but again if they relate to your family history you might not mind. There is also an FAQ that might help you when searching here. I don’t know if this site is regularly updated or maintained. However, I think these sites are little treasures that have information that is available digitally that might not be available anywhere else online. Have fun exploring!
