While you can view newspapers while in MyHeritage, you also can search for newspapers using their new OldNews.com: Historical Newspapers Online Archive site. Let’s look. According to published information on the MyHeritage blog “OldNews.com offers a wide range of publications from local, national, and international news, with extensive coverage of the 1800s and 1900s. At launch, the website includes newspapers from across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Austria, Germany, Czechia, the Netherlands, and Australia. Millions of newspaper pages are added each month, and content from additional countries will be added in the future. The OldNews.com website is available in eleven languages: English, French, German, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. More newspapers in some of these languages will be added soon.”
They also noted that any new digitized historical newspaper images will only be published on OldNews.com You can explore for free for 7 days without having a subscription to OldNews.com. Search by name, event or keyword or search by publication place or publication date. After that you’ll need to subscribe to a plan. There are options for existing MyHeritage subscribers to upgrade to gain full access. However, existing MyHeritage subscribers will be able to search the indexed textual content from all newspapers in both places. They will not be able to view the new newspapers images on MyHeritage but will need to go to OldNews.com to link their accounts. You can find more information about the plan prices and options in the referenced blog below. Take some time to see if this new offering will help you explore your family history. Happy reading!
