Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario 60, Ontario, Canada Photo by Trevor Minett on Unsplash For those who have Ontario roots, I’d like to recommend this site: Where the story takes me… – Tales of family and local history research and folk I meet along the way by Jane E MacNamara. Let’s look. I’ve heard Jane speak at genealogy webinars focused on Ontario land records. She provided great insight regarding land record with helpful tips specific to those records. You will save yourself time by understanding how and why the records were created. In addition to providing this information in presentations, Jane has written detailed blogs related to Ontario research. If you are serious about researching land records for your ancestors, it will be worth your time to deep dive into the resources that she has provided. Examples of blog topics include Ontario Township Papers, Untangling Ontario Township Papers, Paths to a Patents: Acquiring Crown Land in Upper Canada, and A Picture of Ontario Farming—to name a few.
In addition to presentations, Jane also has written a book: Inheritance in Ontario: the book – Where the story takes me… Another interesting set of records that are useful in researching your ancestors in Ontario. While I usually highlight larger databases, it is important to look for the experts in their field. I hope you find this site interesting and helpful in your Ontario research. Happy exploring!
