Photo by Eilis Garvey on Unsplash Despite the best laid plans, I couldn’t join any of the RootsTech 2024 sessions online this past weekend. Perhaps you were more fortunate and were able to attend. The wonderful thing about this conference is that they provide recordings for free, so I’ve spent some time looking to see which classes I want to watch. Here are some thoughts. I noticed that many of the offerings are focused on DNA discoveries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Genealogy and numerous classes on a variety of topics. You can create your own playlist with the courses that you would like to watch. Go to Plan Your RootsTech 2024 Schedule (familysearch.org). There are instructions for building your own schedule but since the event has passed, you can instead use the schedule to find the classes you are interested in, click on the class, and add it to your playlist. (There is a choice to create a playlist that pops up when you add a class.)
In addition to the various classes, you can also view the guest speakers, which I find interesting. While most are not genealogists, they do provide an interesting perspective on their life and family. I imagine we do something similar when we write about our families. Speaking of writing about families, I’d like to point out three of the courses that I discovered that might be of interest to you. I’ve added them to my playlist but have not watched them to date. Stop Struggling and Start Having Fun Writing Your Life Story Using a 5-Step Framework Joanna KleinFrom Research to Draft: Rapidly Writing Your Ancestor's Story Devon Noel Lee They both sound interesting and I’m always looking for ways to help me capture family stories and information because let’s face it. Our families probably don’t want to dig through our many records and files, but they would love to read about their great grandpa in a book or short story. Let’s hope these and other classes inspire us to become better researchers and family historians! Happy Learning and Writing!
