I hope that you are enjoying RootsTech this week. I plan to watch as many sessions from the event as possible so this week’s post will be short but useful. Let’s look.
As you begin to research across the pond for your ancestors, you will be reading and translating documents in a language that you may not know. Or as you transcribe words, you may struggle with the handwriting. It can be very puzzling as you juggle handwriting, a foreign language, and old terms. I became aware of WordMine.info -- International Word Search Engine from Katherine Schober of Germanology Unlocked. This handy online tool allows you to search for words using “ends with”, “begins with”, “find words with” and so much more. It is extremely useful when you can quite figure out a particular letter but know the rest. Or perhaps you think you know what the word is but want to make sure that you’ve read it correctly. This is a great tool for checking that.
Of course, you didn’t hear it from me, but perhaps when you’re really stuck in Wordle or Quordle, you might find suggestions for that elusive five letter word! Ha! Hope you find this tool useful in your translation and transcription work! Happy puzzling!
